Thanks to a high school Latin class in Montana for providing the 2013-2014 Weather Channel's winter storm names. I took Latin in high school and all we did as recite the death of Caesar... et tu, Brute?! This is the second year of TWC trying to name winter storms. What do you think? So Atlas blows... or at least it literally will! The latest MD from SPC expects blizzard conditions to prevail tonight due to differential CVA coupled with deep frontogenesis allowing for the forcing for a lot of ascent and heavy precipitation (there's already some nice banding occurring) and thundersnow is expected... I bet Jim Cantore is beside himself. Interesting event to end this week with and a great kick-off to the discussion of winter weather on MetScholars!

Definitely a great early shot of winter! Made the record books in Rapid City, SD (http://www.crh.noaa.gov/news/display_cmsstory.php?wfo=unr&storyid=97462&source=0) .
