How about a just-for-fun weather-related photo contest? Just reply to the thread with a photo by 00Z on 13 September to have your photo added to the poll. Check back the following week to vote for your favorite photo. Some things to keep in mind: - Use your own pictures!
- Only one picture submission per person per contest.
- Keep the photo a manageable size - don't make people zoom out or scroll to see all of the photo.
- No Photoshop please. Leave that to the B-movie producers busy putting sharks in tornadoes and hurricanes in Chicago.
- Your reward for winning is pride (sorry, no cash).
- Be nice.
- Be safe.
- If you are submitting a picture of an epic storm, do please post the date and approximate location, because we will all want to know!
- And please don't plan on voting for your own photo in the poll, that destroys the whole point (unless you were the only submission, then go ahead).

Guess I'll get the balling rolling on this one, here is a picture I took from the Wasatch foothills (just east of SLC). The picture is of a wild fire in Patch Springs.

Well, here is a picture I took of some fairly rare stratiform rain north of Idalou, TX last fall.

I don't have any great meteorological pictures but as this is the internet and the internet loves cats, here is my submission. This is my cat looking out at the rising surge from Sandy into my family's backyard on the afternoon of 29 October 2012. Note: No animals or humans were harmed in the making of this photo.

Ok I'll play too! I took this panorama shot back on June 17th documenting a shelf cloud moving overhead of the UAlbany campus. The more exciting part was about 5-10 minutes later, when we recorded a 48 mph gust on our local Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather station situated on top of the Earth Science building (not pictured) as the gust front went through.

Philippe, today could be a really nice day for you to break out the camera again!
Is it bad that I sometimes get envious of upstate NY weather?

While walking through my neighborhood I noticed this towering cumulus. It would have been cool to see it form into a cumulonimbus!

Not sure if multiple submissions are allowed but I'm going to go ahead and post this picture anyways since I have nowhere else to show it off! (for the record I'll let my first picture be the submission). What we have here is a thunderstorm over the Great Salt Lake with dark clouds associated with the rear flank of the storm. In this case the outflow was moving east while the mean wind was out of the east (low pressure to the south). This created a zone of convergence which allowed for the continuing development of convection which persisted for an hour over SLC as seen here. Also note the rain shaft that is beginning to develop in the center of the picture. This would eventually turn into a pretty heavy downpour for western SLC

Oh man, I have waaay too many pictures to choose from for this. I guess I'll settle on this one. May 18, 2013, Rozel, KS. That should say enough.

Hey, Tim, the entry for this contest is closed since voting has started. When you get back to the office, expect me to give you a hard time for not reading the directions in the first post But do feel free to add it to the next contest thread, which should be up in a week!
