I thought this would be an interesting topic for discussion.
Where do you see our field heading in the next decade or two? How will the roles of the three sectors (public, private, and academia) evolve? And, perhaps most importantly, what are our responsibilities as the "next generation" of meteorologists?

I honestly feel as if the government sector of things will start to get phased out at some point. I could be completely wrong but judging by other countries meteorology programs, that's where I think we would be heading. (I am not positive as to whether or not other countries are all private sector or not but I recall reading that somewhere at some point. Their programs tend to be better than our government ran program as well). I believe that in the near future (given that my information is correct) we will see the National Weather Service going more and more to the wayside and the private sector will really begin to expand majorly.
