The WxChallenge schedule for this year looks interesting...it's still the same "typical" pattern of station types (e.g. first city is a potential hurricane landfall, others include a mountain city, a plains city, etc.), but with some interesting twists. Most notably, a return to Alaska (Fairbanks) in mid-February and a new take on verification for Norman (city 4 in the fall) with the use of a station in the Oklahoma Mesonet (see www.mesonet.org for all the stations). If Alaska goes well this time (it's been scheduled previously, but been yanked), that would open up the door for at least some other non-CONUS sites in the future. If Norman goes well, that would open up a whole realm of stations in mesonets - I'm thinking most notably West Texas, Oklahoma, and Iowa, but I know many other states are growing their networks as well. Could make for a real interesting day, as you sit there and watch obs come in every 5 minutes or so! Anything else others are looking forward to this year?

Hopefully Fairbanks goes better than Juneau did a couple of years ago. That was undoubtedly one of the most frustrating locales to forecast for, but it was a good challenge.
Grand Rapids will be fun in December. I always enjoy the sites with potential lake effect events.
Going along with the mesonet discussion, Kentucky has a great one (http://www.kymesonet.org/). Maybe one of those sites could be utilized in the future.

I'm pumped for this upcoming WxChallenge competition and think they have a great selection of sites. Even though I am a pretty bad forecaster, I do have a ton of fun pretending that I know what I am talking about with the blog that I keep up for the undergraduates in my department (assuming they ever read it :-P). Does anyone else have a department discussion platform specific to the WxChallenge like that? Sad to see that the WxChallenge forums were taken down (link). Hopefully that sort of hacking doesn't happen to this quaint forum! Link: SBU WxChallenge Blog
