This is not a post about a current Tropical Storm or Hurricane, but more so about one that occurred 75 years ago and was one of the most destructive and powerful to ever strike Long Island and New England in recorded history. I guess with these links below, you will know where I work. Myself and a team of Meteorologists put together a commemorative website on this incredible storm. Check it out here: www.weather.gov/okx/1938HurricaneHomeOver the coming days, there will be posts about this storm on our social media outlets with much of the information already on the web page. Cheap plug: Follow us on Twitter @nwsnewyorkny and "Like" us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/US.NationalWeatherService.NewYorkNY.gov?ref=br_tfAnd for a special treat, you need to check out this video/interview with a living legend, Richard G. Hendrickson. He has been a cooperative observer for the NWS since 1930 and lived through the storm (he is 101 years old and still takes daily observations). Take a few minutes to honor 80+ years of Cooperative Service and listen/watch what he has to say about the 1938 Hurricane. Its well worth your time! youtu.be/vf6d0z0SXk0
